A woman on a flight in the US has published photos of the creepy occupant of the seat next to her.

Writer Sara Novic was in an aisle seat on an overnight flight, with the lone man in the window seat and his inhuman companion sitting in the seat between them.

Ms Novic claims the man was on his way to Cincinnati to see a giant Noah's Ark replica and had even got the doll its own ticket.

"The flight attendant is trying to explain to him why he shouldn't put the doll's name on the ticket next time he buys her one," she tweeted.

"Apparently the [airport security] was frantically trying to match the name and birthdate he provided until they realised ... it's not a real person."

The doll is named Barbara and Ms Novic says she was "very well-behaved" on the flight.

Ms Novic's ordeal is being reported on by multiple new websites and her initial photo of the doll has received more than 1000 "likes" in little more than a day.

Earlier this year, broadcaster David Farrier tweeted an image of a large burger soft toy strapped into a plane seat that was widely shared, currently sitting at more than 137,000 likes.
