The Egyptian military says it has found parts of debris from the missing EgyptAir flight MS804.
Some of the passengers' belongings were located along with the wreckage, 290 kilometres north of the Mediterranean coastal city of Alexandria.
The navy is sweeping the area looking for the plane's two black boxes, the military said in a statement on Friday.
An Airbus technical expert and three French aviation accident investigations arrived in Cairo on Friday to join an Egypt-led probe into the disappearance.
In a statement, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi expressed his condolences.
"The presidency with utmost sadness and regret mourns the victims on aboard the EgyptAir flight who were killed after the plane crashed in the Mediterranean on its way back to Cairo from Paris."
EgyptAir flight MS804 was carrying 66 people -- 56 passengers and 10 crew -- from Paris to Cairo when it disappeared from radar on Thursday.
One child and two babies are believed to have been on board the plane, EgyptAir says.
EgyptAir has confirmed it will open a "thorough investigation" into the cause of the crash and offered its condolences to victims' families and friends.
It had last been detected over the Mediterranean sea, south of Greece, and Greece officials say the plane had swerved in mid-air before plummeting from cruising altitude and vanishing.
It's still unclear how the jet crashed, but aviation and terrorism experts say the evidence so far points towards EgyptAir flight MS804 being brought down by a bomb.
