Elderly man fends off crocodile with spanner, spark plugs

A Victorian man is dead, and another is in hospital, after their boat was overturned by crocodiles in the Northern Territory.

The incident happened northeast of Darwin at Leader's Creek.

Careflight NT director Ian Badham says it's an amazing story of survival for a 72 year-old-man.

"A crocodile charged the boat as he and his mate tried to bring in crab pots, they were thrown into the water. In that ordeal, his mate drowned and he had to fend off crocodiles using a spanner, throwing spark plugs at them until he was eventually rescued."
