The international conference on Illegal Wildlife Trade involving 20 nations has opened in Botswana, with renewed warnings that elephant numbers are falling dramatically.

The bad news comes a year after 46 countries signed the London declaration on the illegal wildlife trade.

Tanzania is the country losing the most elephants, and latest figures show the elephant population there has fallen by 50 percent in some places.

ITV News visited one of those places, and obtained video of Tanzania's biggest round-up of poachers since it promised a crackdown.

In the dead of night, more than 90 poachers are arrested by local forces, who find weapons – but no ivory. It's long gone.

In daylight, they find the gruesome aftermath of the poachers' slaughter.
