Entire state of South Australia without power

A massive storm has knocked out all power to South Australia.

Provider SA Power Networks says it is investigating the issue.

"No upstream supply from the transmission network," the company wrote on Twitter. "State currently without power."

Local media says traffic lights are down, roads are packed and building alarms are going off throughout Adelaide.

Police have advised people to avoid travel if possible.

Two storms smashed the state on Wednesday, the first hitting Adelaide around midday local time and the second at around 3:30pm.

The power outage hit at around 3:45pm during a period of heavy rain, thunder and lightning.

Cleve, on the Eyre Peninsula, was among the worst hit. Gawler, Kapunda, Clare and Balaklava were also pounded by the storm, with large hail falling over the region.
