Slovakia's far-right People's Party says it's launching a petition for a referendum on the country's membership of the European Union after Britain voted to leave the bloc.

Slovak law requires that a petition receive 350,000 signatures from the country of 5.4 million for a referendum to be held.

The results of a referendum are legally binding.

"Citizens of Great Britain have decided to refuse the diktat from Brussels. It is high time for Slovakia to leave the sinking European 'Titanic' as well," the party said on its website on Saturday.

The Slovak People's Party is not the only far-right group celebrating Britain's vote to leave the EU.

Brexit has been cheered by groups including France's National Front party, the Dutch Party for Freedom, Germany's Pegida, the Serbian Radical Party, the Danish People's Party along with Britain's own far-right movements Britain First, the British national Party and the English Defence League.
