The lawyer for Gold Coast man Gable Tostee has defended his client's decision to record his encounter with Tinder date Warriena Wright.
The Lower Hutt women fell to her death from his 14th-floor balcony two years ago. On Thursday Mr Tostee, 30, was found not guilty of killing the New Zealand tourist.
Mr Tostee's lawyer Nick Dore says he never asked why he hit record.
"It rest or fell on that piece of evidence, and had that evidence not been there, would anyone believe what actually transpired that night?" he told Australian radio station 2GB.
Mr Tostee's defence almost asked for a retrial after a juror identified herself on Instagram. Mr Dore says there was a near mistrial.
"His honour clearly stated to not talk about the matter on social media. There's a clear direction there. I just don't know what can happen in relation to policing it."
Mr Dore says Mr Tostee wants to tell his version of events, and may sell his story after walking out of court a free man.
"He's never discussed that with me or tried to have any conversations in relation to selling his story. He has always wanted to get his version across, as you probably noted from his earlier Facebook posts and things along those sorts of lines."
Mr Tostee's first words when the verdict was read out were "thank you".
