Lunacy as moon balloon rolls through the streets

An inflatable moon has come crashing down to Earth in China as a strong typhoon heads toward the country.

It was like a slow-motion scene from an apocalyptic action film - the giant moon replica smothering cars along a busy highway and eliciting screams from residents having come loose because of high winds.

The model was in place for a mid-autumn festival in the city of Fuzhou, and is normally lit up at night for the public to take photos in front of.

But it was no match for the winds of Super Typhoon Meranti, which has already hit Taiwan and is now heading for China's east coast.

It's been called the strongest typhoon to hit Taiwan in 21 years.
