Man tries to kidnap, drag girl from US supermarket

Alarming footage has surfaced of a man trying to drag a 13-year-old girl from a supermarket in Citrus County, Florida.

Store staff and the girl's mother were credited with the quick thinking that saved the girl. The mother entered into a tug-of-war for the girl while staff called 911.

As the alleged offender, Craig Bonello, 30, was leaving after the struggle an off-duty sheriff's office deputy, Jonathan Behnen, happened to be getting out of his patrol car to enter the store.

Dep Behnen was stopping in to get some supplies, the store manager yelled to him that Bonello had tried to kidnap a girl, and after initially not complying, the alleged offender was taken into custody.

"In my 10 years on the road I have never seen anything like this," Citrus County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Craig Callahan told WFLA news.

He said it was amazing that he actually tried to abduct the girl right in front of everyone.

"It actually was violent enough to tear the girl's shirt up pretty badly that she was wearing," Sgt Callahan added.

The mother and daughter are both shaken by the incident, but are not injured.
