Australians enjoy a pretty good reputation internationally, but their image has taken a hit after drunken antics at the Melbourne Cup.

One video in particular has gone viral, and made front pages halfway around the world.

It's supposed to be a classy day of racing, glamour and fashion in the field, and this year there was even a royal touch, with Prince Charles and Camilla in attendance.

But it's images of a young woman so intoxicated she can hardly stand which have gone around the world.

After becoming violent, the woman is eventually pinned down and evicted by five security guards. She's one of 78 racegoers who were evicted from Flemington for alcohol-related incidents.

The video has made news headlines around the world – including Britain's Daily Mail, the world's most-read online newspaper.

It's left Australians red-faced.

The woman has responded online claiming she'd been drugged, and she's ashamed of her behaviour.

This year, 106,000 people attended the Melbourne Cup. Police say by and large the crowd was well-behaved, and only four people were arrested.
