A US teen girl who disappeared seven years ago while on Spring Break was gang-raped before being fed to alligators, an alleged witness says.

Brittanee Marie Drexel, 17, vanished without a trace while on holiday in the coastal city of Myrtle Beach in South Carolina  in 2009.

Now seven years on, inmate Taquan Brown, who is serving 25 years for manslaughter, has told the FBI he saw what happened to Drexel in the moments leading to her death.

According to his grisly account, he saw a man named as Timothy Da'Shaun Taylor "sexually abusing Brittanee Drexel" at a weapons "stash house" about an hour out of the city, Daily Mail reports.

Brown said he saw Drexel try to escape, but she was pistol-whipped and dragged back into the house before two shots rang out.

FBI agent Gerrick Munoz said several witnesses saw the teen's body thrown into an alligator pit.

Taylor has been held on charges relating to the robbery of a McDonald's in 2011 in an effort to get him to cooperate on the Drexel case.

The girl's remains have never been found.
