Roswell is missing a flying saucer.

No, not the one from outer space which allegedly crashed in 1947, kickstarting the New Mexico town's UFO-based tourism industry.

This one's made of earthly fiberglass, metal and steel, and was stolen at the weekend from the city's International UFO Museum and Research Centre, reports the Albuquerque Journal.

"There are certainly a good number of spaceships/flying saucers in Roswell, but if you happen to see one that looks a little out of place, please give [us] a call," local police wrote on their Facebook page.

The UFO used to be displayed outside on the corner of the building, but was recently knocked down by a blizzard. Surveillance video shows three men stealing it from its resting place -- under an awning behind the museum -- and loading it onto a pickup truck, before driving off.

Police would be hoping this UFO is a little easier to find than ET's.
