New 'alien' photos dismissed as fakes

Newly released photos purporting to be of a deceased alien creature captured during the infamous 1947 Roswell incident are being dismissed as fakes.

Experts say the new images, revealed at an event in Mexico City earlier this week, are actually of mummified children, not extra-terrestrials.

But the man who found the photos claims to have spent five years verifying their authenticity, and says that experts from Kodak have dated the film stock to 1947, reports UK paper The Mirror.

Journalist Adam Dew, who apparently found the images in a collection belonging to a deceased Arizona couple, has called them the "smoking gun" in the long-running debate over whether an alien ship crashed on a farm near Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947.

Mr Dew has yet to release high-quality copies of the images, and has declined interviews with mainstream media outlets because they won't pay him, according to The Mirror. Instead he charged people to attend the reveal in Mexico City, as well as selling pay-per-view rights to stream it online.

"This has been a process that has cost me money out of my pocket, and I would certainly like to tell my wife that we at least broke even on this in the worst-case scenario," he told UFO news website openminds.tv.

Mr Dew says he showed them to astrophysicist and popular TV host Neil deGrasse Tyson, who allegedly confirmed they weren't fake.

But experts aren't convinced. Biblical scholar Michael Heiser, who has extensively studied the ancient Near East, wrote on his blog it was obviously a mummified child.

"It's in some sort of display case. I've shown the photo to several Egyptologists – they said the same thing.

"You can see why when you juxtapose the 'alien' photo with a child mummy photograph. Funny how they both have the tell-tale body cavity opening."

Still, Mr Dew has some high-profile supporters – astronaut Edgar Mitchell, the sixth man to walk on the moon, was at the event and told The Mirror the images show a type of alien known as a 'grey'.

The 1947 Roswell crash is perhaps the most studied event in ufology. At the time, the authorities claimed it was actually an experimental weather balloon that came down to Earth, not an alien spacecraft.
