The man best known for his progressive and comparatively liberal view of the Catholic faith was at Holy Mass in Poland when he tripped down some stairs.
The Argentinian stumbled as he was arriving at the Black Madonna shrine of Czestochowa in the country's south.
However the fall didn't appear to faze Pope Francis, who was helped to his feet and went on with the service.
