The 33-year-old princess and her husband Prince William already have son Prince George, 20 months, and after being almost a week overdue the royal beauty has finally welcomed the couple's second bundle of joy this morning.
The new arrival weighed in at 8lbs. 3oz., but no name has been announced yet.
“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am,” a palace statement confirmed.
“The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.
“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
Fans have been gathered outside St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London, for weeks now, where Catherine gave birth in the Lindo Wing.
Parking restrictions outside the facility have been extended until May 5 to ensure people lining the streets will get a glimpse at the little one when she leaves the hospital.
Catherine and William, who is currently on paternity leave and will not return to his work at the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service until June 1, currently have the help of nanny Maria Borrallo with George.
It was recently reported that the couple won't be hiring extra hands for their new daughter, but if anything was to change with their circumstances it wouldn't be until after a few months, according to sources.
Ken Wharfe, former personal protection officer to William and his brother Harry when the men were youngsters, thinks another nanny may be needed.
"They may not have one initially but they'll have one ultimately, in six months to a year. When George is being taken out, someone's got to stay in and look after the other one. They'll have to have a reserve nanny to do the babysitting when the other's out," he previously explained.
