Runaway horse stops traffic on Melbourne Cup day

Most eyes were on the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, but a runaway horse was turning heads in Sydney after making its way down a main road.

The gelding sparked a police pursuit after it made off from its handler in Centennial Park.

Emergency services were forced to make awkward announcements, warning drivers a horse was on the loose.

The horse, named Lucky, was eventually caught by a man studying the form guide for the Melbourne Cup.

"I just calmed it down, patted it down and calmed it down, put it in the shade," he says. "All of a sudden there were around 1200 coppers."

The horse was reunited with its owner shortly after the ordeal.
