In Russia, thousands of commuters have been stuck in a colossal traffic jam that stretched over 200 kilometres.

The backlog was caused by heavy snow and had some drivers stuck on the M-10 highway for days.

The highway is a main thoroughfare, which links Moscow with St Petersberg and continues to the border with Finland.

Field kitchens were operating on the road, but many drivers said supplies never reached them.

Many were running low on fuel after keeping their engines running to heat their vehicles in the subzero temperatures.
