Today could be the day convicted Australian drug smuggler Schapelle Corby is released from the Indonesian prison she's been held in since 2005.

The 36-year-old was caught in 2004 trying to bring more than 4kg of marijuana into Bali in a bodyboard bag. She's always maintained her innocence.

Indonesia's Justice Minister, Amir Syamsuddin, confirmed on Thursday he would make the decision on Corby’s parole today, but says there were around 1700 other parole applications he needed to consider as well. Corby would not get special treatment, he said.

Corby's case for parole was heard last week, but the Indonesian government wouldn't reveal whether it had recommended her for parole.
