Two teenage girls have been shot dead at a high school in Glendale, Arizona.

The girls, both 15-years-old, each had a single gunshot wound and a gun was found near their bodies, a police spokeswoman said at a news conference. She could not confirm whether the shooting involved a suicide, but police said they were not looking for any suspects.

Earlier today, a police officer confirmed there had been a shooting at Independence High School.

Concerned parents were gathering outside the school, looking for their children, and a section of the street the school is on was closed, Phoenix television station KPHO reported.

The school went into lockdown but there was no ongoing threat to the campus or nearby neighbourhood, police said.
