Heavy rain has brought flooding to parts of Hong Kong this week, but an elderly man reading his newspaper in a shopping mall Starbucks was undeterred.

A photo showing the man sitting in a completely flooded Starbucks, totally unfazed, was posted on Facebook by Hong Kong broadcaster TV Most.

The caption reads, "Huh? The newspaper said that it would be raining today! But I forgot to bring my umbrella."

The man was christened 'Starbucks uncle' on social media after generating more than 19,000 reactions and 2500 shares.

The man, focused on his newspaper and enjoying a coffee, was photographed in the Chai Wan district.

His indifference may make him a comrade of this Taiwanese woman, who found fame after she was snapped in the midst of Typhoon Megi in September, just trying to enjoy a pork bun.

Internet users were quick to photoshop Starbucks uncle into other tumultuous scenes.

Hong Kong, population 7 million, has seen days of monsoon rain ahead of the arrival of approaching Typhoon Haima.
