Eye witnesses say the driver of the train which crashed into a station near New York was seen slumped over shortly before the crash.

One person was killed by falling debris and more than 100 people were injured, many critically, after a passenger train crashed inside a New Jersey train terminal.

Pictures show twisted metal where the train ploughed through the station as well as a collapsed roof and scattered debris.

The train was reportedly coming into the station at full throttle, when it smashed into a platform packed with commuters at Hoboken station, New Jersey.

It is estimated the train went 10 metres into the air when it hit a buffer at the end of the track, bringing down the roof of the Hoboken terminal.
