More information has emerged about Donald Trump's speechwriter, who has taken the blame for writing Melania Trump's plagiarised speech.
The speech has become a focus point for attacks on Mr Trump's credibility and honesty, after it emerged portions were taken from a speech by Michelle Obama.
Meredith McIver is a staff writer for the Trump campaign. In a statement, she explained how the plagiarism occurred.
"Over the phone, she read me some passages from Mrs Obama's speech as examples. I wrote them down and later included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech," she said.
"I did not check Mrs Obama's speeches. That was my mistake, and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Mrs. Obama. No harm was meant."
The Independent published a piece that questioned whether Ms McIver was a real person.
However, this has turned out to be a conspiracy theory, with evidence of Ms McIver including Amazon links and newspaper references.
This is not the first time Ms McIver has taken the blame for plagiarism. In a 2007 deposition, the New York Times reported, Mr Trump blamed exaggerations about his debt levels in his books on her.
"This is somebody that wrote it, probably Meredith McIver," Mr Trump said.
So, once again, Ms McIver has fallen on her sword.
"She is terrific, she's a terrific woman," Mr. Trump said in a Wednesday interview. "She's been with us a long time and she just made a mistake."
"She came in and she said, 'Mr. Trump, I'd like to say what happened.' I thought it was such a nice thing. Who knew this was going to be a big story?"
