Two bombs have exploded in the German city of Dresden - one at a mosque and one at an international conference centre - but no one is injured, police say.

"Even if we so far have no claim of responsibility, we must go on the basis that the motive was xenophobic," Horst Kretzschmar, president of Dresden police said in a statement.

There was no immediate report on the extent of damage.

Police say they found pieces of a home-made explosive device in front of the conference centre. They also increased the security in front of mosques all over Dresden.

Dresden will hold Germany's national unification celebrations next Monday. It's the state capital of Saxony which has seen a lot of racist attacks recently.
