Terrifying footage is emerging from eastern China as Typhoon Nepartak brings floods and damages buildings.
The storm is hitting China with winds of up to 100km/h and heavy rains after leaving three people dead in Taiwan.
The town of Bandong in Minqing County, Fujian Province, was flooded on Saturday morning (local time) with waters quickly rising to over two meters high. The ground floors of several buildings were left submerged, as cars and debris were carried away by floodwater.
The city of Putian declared an emergency after 250mm of rain fell in just four hours, Xinhua reported.
More than 100 trains were cancelled in the province and traffic was disrupted on the roads. There were no immediate estimates for the cost of the damage.
Prime Minister Lin Chuan visited the hardest-hit area of Taitung on the southeast coast of the island and met soldiers assisting with the clean-up efforts.
About 20,000 households were still without electricity in the city and 8000 had no running water, Taiwan's Central News Agency reported.
