A US flight was forced to make an emergency landing when part of the plane's engine ripped off in mid-air.

The Southwest Airlines aircraft was on its way to Orlando with more than 100 people onboard when it was diverted because of the problem.

Breathing masks were deployed and several people panicked, but

"It was just a big explosion. There was some smoke and then nothing," a passenger told CNN. "I saw parts flapping in the wind."
