A police emergency line operator in Houston, Texas has appeared in court on Monday (local time), accused of hanging up on hundreds of callers.
Prosecutors allege Crenshanda Williams may have hung up on as many as 825 people who called up needing aid. She faces two counts of interfering with a 911 call.
One of her alleged victims was involved in a life-threatening armed robbery.
Court documents show you can hear Ms Williams say, "Ain't nobody got time for this. For real." She then hangs up on the desperate caller.
Prosecutor Claire Moreau says the investigation into Ms Williams' behavior began after she was flagged for the number of "short calls" she received.
"We were able to narrow down in all about 825 calls where somebody was actually calling 911 and not the none emergency line - that she hung up on that person and that they called back within five minutes," Ms Moreau says.
If found guilty, Ms Williams could face up to two years behind bars.
Ms Williams has refused to comment on the case against her.
