Video: Beached baby dolphin 'took off like a bullet'

When you walk along a beach, you never know what you're going to find washed up.

But rather than a slew of rubbish or a message in a bottle, one man from a Namibian kayaking company found a baby dolphin still alive on a beach.

The black and white juvenile male Benguela dolphin was found alone with no obvious signs of how it ended up there.

Not holding out much hope, the man in the video picks the mammal up and takes it into the surf.

"After a quick assessment and measurements, I attempted to get him swimming again," the post reads.

"I was not very hopeful, but as soon as he got into water and realised where he was he took off like a bullet."

The Benguela dolphin, also known as the Haviside's dolphin, is a small species found off the coast of Namibia and the west coast of South Africa.

Video of the rescue was posted on the Pelican Point Kayaking Facebook page.

The company is a family business which was started by Naude and Katja Dreyer in June 2013.
