At least seven homes, 12 sheds and four vehicles have been destroyed by a bushfire in South Australia.

The fire broke out just before midday on Sunday near Port Lincoln in South Australia and spread through 2000ha of scrub. It was fanned by northerly winds fuelled by high temperatures.

The fire is now held within control lines but authorities have warned residents it could flare up again and they should remain on high alert.

Fire cause investigators and police are at the scene. There were reports that up to 18 homes were destroyed but that won’t be confirmed until later today.

More than a hundred fire fighters are battling the blaze on the ground while three water bombers are attacking it from the air.
