Cats aren't known for their love of water, especially not big cats, but something prompted a lion in India to jump into the ocean for a swim at the weekend.
The lion was spotted by local fisherman along the shores of the Arabian Sea on India's western coast off Gujarat.
It is believed the lion strayed from the nearby Gir National Park into the port area where it was seen on the rocks before leaping into the sea.
Officials were called to the scene, where crowds gathered to watch the rare event.
The lion was rescued from the water and tranquilised before being sent to an animal rescue centre.
The animal will be kept under supervision at the centre where it will eventually be released back into the wild.
An investigation is underway into how the lion managed to enter the port.
