A video released by Spanish police shows the dramatic rescue of a woman who fainted and fell onto train tracks at a metro station in Madrid.

An unnamed 38-year-old off-duty policeman came to the aid of the 52-year-old woman after she tumbled onto the rails, RTE News reports.

The policeman is seen in the CCTV footage carrying the woman across the tracks, and other members of the public help him lift her to safety on the other side.

The incident took place at the Marques de Vadilla metro station.

Police say the woman was first treated at the station by a doctor before the arrival of an emergency service team.
