If you've taken the vow of veganism, a trip down to your local butcher may be a foreign concept - unless you're in Minneapolis that is.

This month, the world's first 'vegan butcher' will open its doors in the city of Minnesota, after a successful Kickstarter campaign which raised more than US$64,000.

The Herbivorous Butcher sells a range of plant-based meats and cheeses to vegans who'd like to include meat alternatives in their diet.

They also sell a vegan 'starter kit', for those who may have taken it up as a New Year's resolution.

The brother and sister duo, Kale and Aubry Walch, are behind this venture.

They have a loyal following at their vegan stand at their local famers' market who helped fund the kick started, enabling them to open up the butchery.

There will be a number of vegan delicacies on offer, such as: tofu-based Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Smoky House Ribs, Deli Bologna and Teriyaki Jerky, as well as weekly specials like Maple-Glazed Bacon, Hawaiian Ribs, Andouille Sausage and Pulled Pork.

"We've created complex and flavourful products that will satisfy any herbivore, omnivore, and even self‐proclaimed carnivores," their Kickstarter page says.
