Singer/actor Aaron Carter is struggling with a broken heart after attending his sister's funeral on Sunday.

Leslie Carter died on 31 January at her father's home in upstate New York. Reports suggest the 25 year old suffered a drug overdose, although an autopsy conducted last week proved inconclusive and the family is now awaiting the results of a toxicology report to determine her cause of death.

She was laid to rest in a private ceremony in Mayville, attended by around 70 family members and friends, including Aaron and their mother Jane, according to Eonline.com.

The aspiring singer's older brother, Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter, was forced to skip the memorial service due to his ongoing tour, which he has since dedicated to Leslie.

But Aaron, who is taking time off from his starring role in Off Broadway musical The Fantasticks to mourn the loss, is having a hard time dealing with his grief.

Taking to his Twitter.com blog before the funeral, he wrote, "The truth will reveal itself. I Love you Leslie soo very very very very very much!! virtually no words. You will always be my best friend."

He added on Monday, "My heart is completely broken.. signing off".

Meanwhile, Aaron also took the time to thank rap mogul Russell Simmons for his message of condolence in the wake of Leslie's passing.

He tweeted, "Thank you so much to you for your condolences my family appreciates it ill (sic) pass it along."
