Catching proposals on camera

Marriage proposals are usually a private occasion, however there's a new trend brewing -  proposal photography or "pap-rosals".

Many people are now hiring professionals to capture all the nerves, excitement and hopefully joy surrounding the big question.

Stan Laulu Faalogo had been dating his girlfriend Julia for seven months when he decided to pop the question.

He decided to hire a team of three photographers and videographers to be on hand to record everything. They specialise in these paparazzi-style proposals.

"I really wanted to capture the amazing moment and share it with my family [and] hopefully my kids in the future," says Mr Laulu Faalogo.

The trend took off in the US around five years ago, and now more and more Kiwis are getting on board.

One of the photographers, Jared Brandon, said the internet and Youtube are the biggest inspirations for people, where they see proposal videos that go viral.

"It's a watershed moment. People have their wedding photographed and filmed, and a proposal is another big part of that story."

Jared says so far they have had no bad responses.

Mr Laulu Faalogo 's wife Julia thought he was in America doing charity work, and that the cameras were present for a promotional video for an ice-cream company. Instead, Stan was waiting for her just down the path.

A series of orchestrated clues eventually led Julia to the right place and Stan got down on one knee.

"Will you make me the happiest person…and marry me?."

After she said yes, Stan gleefully pointed out the cameras to his future-wife, who then described how she is feeling on camera.

The "pap-rosal" team will also be attending the couples' wedding.
