New Zealander Chelsie Preston Crayford has won the Australian Logie Award for outstanding new talent after her role in Underbelly: Razor.

The Graham Kennedy Award for Most Outstanding New Talent was presented to Crayford by Rove McManus at the awards ceremony, which honours the best of Australian television.

“I’m privileged to stand up here in such great company,” Crayford said as she accepted the award.

“This show is absolutely a team effort. Being surrounded by such extraordinary craftsmanship in every department – the camera department, the make-up department, the wardrobe, the directors, the writers and all of the beautiful other actors including my dear friend Danielle Cormack whose support and involvement really defined this job for me.”

Crayford, daughter of filmmaker Gaylene Preston, has previously appeared in Shortland Street, The Cult, The Tribe and Eagle vs Shark.

Underbelly: Razor screened on TV3 in New Zealand.

Comedian Hamish Blake won the most prestigious award at last night’s ceremony in Melbourne, the Gold Logie, which is awarded to the most popular personality on Australian television.

News of his Blake's big win was posted online before the stars had even walked the red carpet, but Blake was unaware of his triumph, insisting, "Ultimately all that information was kept from me so it was a genuine surprise. I'm glad too because I am not a great actor."

Other accolades were awarded to Packed to the Rafters’ Hugh Sheridan and Offspring's Asher Keddie, who both walked away with Silver Logies for most popular actor and actress, respectively.

The Slap star Melissa George took home the prize for Outstanding Actress and Rob Carloton of the Paper Giants took home the same award in the male category.

Rapper Flo Rida and singer Seal provided the entertainment for the evening, while Sir Elton John and Delta Goodrem took the stage to pay tribute to music personality Ian 'Molly' Meldrum, who suffered a severe head injury during a fall in December.

The Rocket Man said, "I know I speak for many artists and music lovers around world when I say thank you, there's no one like you," while Goodrem added, "I refer to Molly as the Godfather, he always watches over me and many other artists."

British boy band One Direction closed out the ceremony with a rendition of ‘One Thing’.
