New Zealand specialist gaming website Gameplanet has today expanded into the Australian market by merging with Australian Gamer.

As a result of the merger, the newly formed Gameplanet ANZ Network boasts a reach of more than 260,000 Australian and New Zealand gamers each month.

In a statement released today, Gameplanet says it has “built and maintained a strong reputation for its professionalism and the high standard of its gaming editorial, leading to syndication partnerships with Fairfax. Through this partnership, much of the network’s content regularly reaches an audience of close to 4 million in ANZ, and peaks at 12 million in ANZ each month."

“I’m very excited Australian Gamer has chosen to join our family,” says Gameplanet managing director Simon Garner.

“Between Matt, Yug and James, we intend to bring Gameplanet New Zealand’s methods and standards to the Australian market through an editorial team that is already familiar to both Australian readers and the Australian video game industry.”

“We worked on AustralianGamer for more than seven years,” says Gameplanet Australia editor Matt Burgess.

“It’s awesome to see it blossom from a niche publication into what will be a major presence in the industry.”

“Merging with Gameplanet presents an exciting opportunity,” says Gameplanet Creative Strategist Guy 'Yug' Blomberg.

“With our wealth of local knowledge, industry connections, and community experience, there’s no doubt in my mind that we can become the heart of Australian gaming culture.”

The new website, gameplanet.com.au, is live now.
