American band The Dillinger Escape Plan are one of the pioneers of progressive metal-core or "math-core," type of rock which focuses on differing time signatures within the same piece of music.

They are not everyone's cup of tea.  One reviewer says their shows are "like that bit in Jurassic Park where the T-Rex eats the goat."

Still, that has not stopped them coming to share their music with us.

Guitarist Ben Weinman is the only original member of the band left.  Nine others, including Mike Patton from Faith No More, have come and gone.

The Dillinger Escape Plan are often credited for creating mathcore, a type of rock where typical time signatures are thrown out the window, and replaced with heaps of irregular sequences that tend to confuse your brain until you have listened to the song about 10 times.

The Dillinger Escape Plan perform their first ever gig in New Zealand tomorrow night at Auckland’s Transmission Room. no doubt gaining some new fans and new injuries in the process.
