Rocker Nikki Sixx has slammed actor Kirk Cameron for his controversial comments blasting homosexuality as "unnatural" and "detrimental".

The former Growing Pains star, now an evangelical Christian, spoke out against homosexuality during an interview on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight on Friday.

He told presenter Morgan, "I think that it's (homosexuality) unnatural. I think that it's detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilisation."

His comments sparked fury among gay rights activists and a representative for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) condemned Cameron's views as "out of step".

Now Motley Crue star Sixx has waded into the debate, admitting he's disgusted by Cameron's beliefs.

In a series of posts on Twitter.com on Sunday, he wrote, "Kirk Cameron, asshole of the week. I get the 'Freedom of speech' tweets from you guys... I just have a really hard time excepting people bashing gay marriage. Love Is Love."

And Sixx isn't the only celebrity to disagree with Cameron - his former TV co-star Tracey Gold has also taken to her Twitter blog to voice her support for the gay community's No Hate (NoH8) campaign.

She wrote, "I am a strong supporter of the #LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) Community, and I believe in equal rights for all."
