Jake Gyllenhaal is Colter Stevens, a US soldier who finds himself waking up on a train, in another man's body, with no clue who he is or why he's there.

Eight minutes later, boom. Colter's being beamed back in time by a shady government organisation, on a mission to prevent a massive terrorist bombing not just of the train, but of Chicago itself.

There's certainly a ground-hog day element to this. Gyllenhaal's character can only remain in the past for eight minutes at a time, and he must gather as much information as he can to stop the attack.

My expectations for Source Code were high, given my love for the directors first outing Moon. While those high expectations weren’t entirely met, I still found plenty to like. The cheesiness at times was a negative but I enjoyed the simple effective narrative, and the cast delivers nicely.

3.5 stars.
