Asia guitarist Steve Howe is quitting the group to concentrate on other projects.

The rocker co-founded Asia in the 1980s with bassist John Wetton, drummer Carl Palmer and keyboardist Geoff Downes, but he is now leaving the line-up.

The musician will continue to play with prog-rockers Yes as well as his jazz act, the Steve Howe Trio, which features his son Dylan on drums.

In a statement obtained by Blabbermouth.net, Howe says, "Myself and the band wish to thank their fans for the enthusiasm shown during the original members' reunion. I will continue with Yes, and with my trio and solo guitar work. I wish my friends continued success."

Last month, Asia was forced to axe a 30th anniversary tour after Palmer was diagnosed with a serious bacterial infection.
