Filmmaking team Traces of Nut have been awarded top honours at the 11th annual Rialto Channel 48Hours Furious Filmmaking competition with their short The Sleeping Plot.

The filmmakers were given the award at a grand final event held at Auckland's Civic Theatre this evening, where all finalist films were screened.

More than 800 teams from across New Zealand entered this year's competition to create a short film in just 48 hours. Films are judged by an international judging panel which includes Scott Foundas (Chief Critic at Variety), Lodge Kerrigan (Homeland director) and Scott Walker (Frozen Ground director).

By winning the competition, Traces of Nut were awarded a prize pool of around $50,000 from NZ Film Commission and Wingnut Films and services.

The runner up prize went to team Chess Club for I Got Robots with team Nightowls' Autocraniotomous being awarded third place.

The Sleeping Plot and best animated film winner Sleep Clinic have both been selected to compete at the prestigious Fantastic Fest in Austin.
