Some of the highlights of today’s stain segment:

A large area of aluminium needing to be cleaned on a campervan. The solution? Black tea and pantihose

Removing mould from a polyester fleece. The solution? Place in a bucket of water with one kilo of salt. Hang on the clothesline without rinsing, wait until it’s dry then brush the salt off before washing normally.

Cleaning mould off Lockwood timber walls. The solution? Put ¼ tsp of Oil of Cloves into one litre of water. Spray on the walls. 48 hours later spray again and wipe over with a pair of pantihose.

Removing cooking oil from concrete. The solution? Mix plaster of Paris with water until it’s the consistency of peanut butter. For every cup of mixture add one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid, paint it over the stain about half an inch think and leave it to completely dry. Sweep off.

Cleaning mould off the thermal backing on curtains. The solution? Paint a heavy salt solution over the mould stains then brush off.

Removing ballpoint ink from a white handbag. The solution? Put white spirits on a cotton bud and write over the stain. Once it starts coming off sprinkle remaining stain with talcum powder. Wait until it’s completely dry then brush off.
