For a nation that prides itself on its beautiful array of beaches, New Zealand has yet to stamp its mark on the sport of beach Vvolleyball.

We'll have our opportunity on the Gold Coast, when the sport makes its Commonwealth Games debut in the spectacular setting of Coolangatta Beach.

A total of 12 men's and 12 women's teams are scheduled to compete (48 athletes, at two per team) in each tournament.

New Zealand is the fourth-ranked nation entering the competition, behind Canada, Australia, and England.

The NZ squad comprises a men’s pair - Ben and Sam O’Dea - and a women’s pair - Shaun Polley and Kelsie Wills.

The O’Dea brothers have been regulars on the Asian professional tour and hope to lock down a spot for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Polley and Wills were selected after a successful international season, which included a bronze medal at the 2017 Ulsan 1 Star World Tour Event in Korea.
