The Olympic silver medallist in the trap shoot will be seeking revenge on the Gold Coast. The 29-year-old lost out to Australian Catherine Skinner in the Rio final two years ago.

Since that breakout performance, Rooney has spent time as the world number one and won silver at the Commonwealth championships in Brisbane 12 months ago.

The Timaru native attended Craighead Diocesan College in her youth. Sport runs in the Rooney family, with her two younger brothers also representing New Zealand as juniors.

Rooney will be attending her third Commonwealth Games, after finishing fourth at Glasgow 2014 and fifth at Delhi 2010. She heads to the Gold Coast with golden expectations and anything less than a medal would likely be a disappointment.

Since 2012, Rooney has committed up to three months each year to training in Europe under the guidance of top Italian shooting coach Andrea Miotto. When not training in Timaru, Auckland or internationally, she can be found working for her South Canterbury-based family business, Rooney Earthmoving.
