Still a teeanger, McTaggart has shown her readiness to chase and perhaps succeed training partner Eliza McCartney as New Zealand’s queen of the pole vault.

Following only a few years behind McCartney, McTaggart has already claimed many of her national records - her 4.40m best was good for second in the 2017 world youth rankings and sixth in junior rankings.

She has also qualified for the world junior championships in Finland in July.

The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games loom as a family affair for McTaggart - brother Cameron will contest the 77kg weightlifting competition.

But she will have to overcome an ankle injury, suffered at the national championships, which affected her final preparation for the Games.
