Webster burst onto the cycling radar in 2009 as a teenager, taking gold in the sprint, team sprint and Keirin at the junior world championships.

Since then, he has been a key component in an NZ sprint squad that has established itself as one of the best in the world, capturing a bronze in the 2012 world championships, silver the following year and gold in 2014.

The combination took silver at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, with Webster placing third in the individual event. Four years later, he snatched gold in both events at Glasgow, along with silver in the Keirin.

The team of Webster, Eddie Dawkins and Ethan Mitchell were relegated to second at the 2015 world championships for an illegal change, but regained their title the following year and defended it in 2017.

In between, they took silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics, but were a disappointing sixth at the most recent world championships last month.
