SIMON VAN VELTHOOVEN

Born: December 8, 1988 (32)

Role: Team NZ grinder

America's Cup campaigns: 2

Another multi-sport athlete on Team NZ, van Velthooven originally made his name in track cycling, winning a bronze medal in the men's keirin at the 2012 London Olympics.

He also won world championship and Commonwealth Games medals, and was the 2012 World Cup champion in the kilo time trial and keirin.

In 2014, van Velthooven won a silver medal in the kilo time trial at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games before turning his attention to sailing.

As a 'cyclor' used at Bermuda, the man nicknamed 'Rhino', because of his bulk and power, was the driving force in Team NZ's radical use of leg power to win back the America's Cup four years ago.
