As Andrew Hewitt, she was New Zealand's most consistent triathlete for more than a decade, contesting three Olympics and three Commonwealth Games, with top-10 finishes at all but one and an individual bronze medal at Melbourne 2006.

Hansen was a competitive swimmer and surf lifesaver, until switching to triathlon at the age of 22 and winning a world U23 title. She won her first World Cup race at Kitzbuhel in 2007 and the World Cup grand final at Beijing in 2011.

Tragedy struck in 2015, when coach and fiance Laurent Vidal died of a heart attack, but Hansen continued her career, helping New Zealand to a mixed relay bronze at Gold Coast 2018.

She has since married and gave birth to daughter Flossie last year, before making a comeback to training for Birmingham.
