Williams took up cycling, after testing at high school suggested she would be suited to the sport, after previously playing netball and waterpolo.

She took world junior silver medals in team pursuit (2010) and individual pursuit (2011) on the track. Williams contested individual pursuit, points race and scratch race at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, and was a member of the fourth-placed pursuit team at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

But her real success has come on the road, where she took silver at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Williams has won two national road titles and four of the last five time trial championships, achieving the double in 2018 and 2021.

She currently races professionally for Team BikeExchange-Jayco.
