Birmingham Commonwealth Games: Kiwi duo Paul Coll and Joelle King win squash mixed doubles for New Zealand's 19th gold medal

Kiwi duo Paul Coll and Joelle King have won New Zealand's 19th gold medal of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, taking first place in the squash mixed doubles.

Up against the home pair of Alison Waters and Adrian Waller of England, Coll and King took victory in straight games, winning 11-3, 11-6 to seal the gold medal in just over half an hour.

The gold medal is Coll's second of these Commonwealth Games after taking out the men's singles, while King finished fourth in the women's singles.

The gold medal sees Coll and King improve on their result from the Gold Coast 2018 Games, where they claimed bronze.

King, though, will have the chance to add a second gold when she and Amanda Landers-Murphy play for the women's doubles gold on Tuesday morning (NZ time).

The gold medal further increases Birmingham's status as New Zealand's most successful Commonwealth Games campaign.

The 19 gold medals has exceeded the haul of 17, won at Auckland in 1990, after Aaron Gate's fourth win of the Games earlier on Monday set a new record.
