Birmingham Commonwealth Games: Kiwi wrestler Tayla Ford claims bronze in women's 68kg category

Kiwi Tayla Ford has won New Zealand's first wrestling medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Ford easily accounted for Amylee Sephora of Mauritius in the bronze medal match in the women's 68kg category.

She needed just 40 seconds to pin her opponent, to clinch the win and secure her second bronze medal at a Commonwealth Games, after picking up bronze in Glasgow in 2014.

Ford revealed she knew she would come out on top, and wanted to make an impression early and set the tone against Sephora

"My confidence in myself helped. I knew I was going to win. I wanted to win. I think that helped a lot," she told Sky Sport.

"I went out there 110%. I wanted to be aggressive, focused and to breathe and stay calm."

"I'm still learning. Even from today, I have a lot that I've picked up, but in that particular session, I think my experience played a big part."

Meanwhile, fellow Kiwi Matthew Oxenham lost his bronze medal match against Alexander Moore of Canada in the men's freestyle 86kg event.
